NACES Global Standards Program

CIMEA is now the first center to be recognized as a Global Recognized Organization within the initiative of the NACES Global Standards Program. The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services itself has announced it in the following statement:

“NACES is pleased to announce that the Centro Informazioni Mobilità Equivalenze Accademiche (CIMEA) located in Rome, Italy, has completed Phase I of the Global Standards Program of NACES and can now be affirmed as a Global Recognized Organization (GRO). NACES offers its Global Standards Program (GSP) to credential evaluation and assessment organizations located outside the United States that desire to further refine their practices in alignment with NACES’ high-quality, research-based professional standards of methodology for credential evaluation and assessment services. A NACES Global Recognized Organization (GRO) is not an official member of NACES; yet, it is one that applies the standards and principles of NACES. Its work demonstrates evidence of intent to comply with many of these standards. A GRO may go about actualizing these standards in different ways in its own socio-cultural-political-educational context.”

This achievement is an important step in the dialogue at global level on quality assurance, recognition procedures and automatic recognition.

The Director of CIMEA, Mr Luca Lantero, declares: “As CIMEA, we are proud to be the first center to be recognized as a Global Recognized Organization within the initiative of the NACES Global Standard Program. We are completely on board with the vision of strengthening the quality of the procedures for qualifications recognition and for boosting international acceptance of the credential evaluator as a professional category.

This is a most timely initiative specifically in the light of the Global Recognition Convention and the international discussion on the quality standards of the centers that deal with the recognition of qualifications and automatic recognition procedures. It is our hope that other centers will likewise be inspired. We are talking about an issue where a lot of work has been done from the European perspective, through the ENIC-NARIC centers, and this initiative can strengthen Europe-USA dialogue, as well as fostering a global exchange of ideas in this area.”

As a matter of fact, this important acknowledgment is consistent with the history and commitment of CIMEA. In this regard, Mr. Lantero underlines: “CIMEA has always been a strong promoter of this initiative because, despite being an official center established in one of the countries of the ENIC-NARIC network, we have since the very beginning embraced the notion of international collaboration and the free exchange of information. We immediately saw the advantages behind this proposal, and enthusiastically approved this evaluation of our procedures and methodologies. It is our intention to be increasingly transparent towards those who request recognition of their qualifications in Italy, and we take very seriously the fundamental reality that behind every request for recognition of a qualification there are the expectations and aspirations of a person, which must be answered in a timely, clear, fair and accessible fashion.

NACES seemed to us the only international example of an organization that could guarantee this quality assessment of our activities, using standards consolidated by many years of experience and by a community of professionals operating inside the sector.

To sum up, CIMEA's objective is to promote the quality assessment of recognition procedures carried out by ENIC-NARIC centers, but first and foremost by all higher education institutions, in order to further encourage the development of recognition procedures in line with the principles of the Lisbon Convention and international quality standards.”
